Modernitätsnarrativ
Gleich wie westliche Streitkräfte präsentiert die PLA im Rahmen der Ausstellung auch seine Modernität, Innovations- und Technologieoffenheit. Speziell aufgefallen sind die Bereiche Robotik/Drohnen, Simulationen und Nuklearenergie. Als Kontrast hatte die Ausstellung über die traditionellen Landstreitkräfte eher historischen Charakter und ist im Keller unten aufzufinden.

Die verflochtenen und komplexen der Strukturen des chinesischen Militärs sind ebenfalls verschiedentlich dargestellt. Oberste militär-politische Führungsebene stellt die Zentrale Militärkommission dar mit ihrer Militärverwaltung (Seven departments (offices), three committees,
Five directly affiliated organizations). Das Verteidigungsdepartement hat nur repräsentativen Charakter und ist nicht in die Chain of command eingebunden. Darunter kommen die Theater Commands, die Teilstreitkräfte und Unterstützungskräfte. Das Museum scheint in diesem Bereich sehr aktuell zu sein, da bereits die letztes Jahr aus der Strategic Support Force geformten Unterstützungskommandos Weltraum, Cyber und Information dargestellt sind. Wissenschafts- und Bildungsinstitutionen scheinen weit oben angesiedelt zu sein. Die Ausstellung bestätigt einige unserer früheren Analysen und Beurteilungen zu den chinesischen Streitkräften.

Für Streitkräfte mit chinesischen Charakteristika ist das Parteirepräsentanz-System zentral. Das bedeutet, dass bis tief in die Hierarchie der Armee hinein auf gleicher Stufe wie die regulären militärischen Kommandanten Parteirepräsentanten und Parteigruppen eingesetzt sind. Dies lässt zumindest Zweifel an einer effektiven Krisenführung aufkommen, entspricht aber dem deklarierten Ziel, die Armee der "zivilen" Kontrolle unterstellt zu haben und Korruption innerhalb der Armee zu bekämpfen.
